Tell RSS whatâs wrong with its ideology: P Chidambaram to Pranab MukherjeeET Bureau|May 31, 2018, 07.30 AM ISTNEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has publicly articulated what many party leaders have been hoping privately: That former President Pranab Mukherjee would criticise the RSS ideology when he visits the Sangh headquarters next week to address an even t.
âNow that he (Mukherjee) has accepted the (RSS) invitation, there is no point in debating about it. Sir, please go there (RSS headquarters) and tell them what is wrong with their ideology,â Chidambaram said in response to a question on the former Presidentâs decision to accept the RSS invitation to be the chief guest at the event. Congress leader was participating in a panel discussion organised in connection with the release of his colleague Abhishek Manu Singhviâs book, Straight Talk, a collection of his writings.
When asked the same question, Singhvi too subtly conveyed similar feelings. âIt is superficial to presume unless what you have heard (Mukherjeeâs speech). It is also important to keep in mind the 60 yearsâ legacy of the man (Mukherjee),â Singhvi said.
Singhviâs book was released at a function where vice-president Venkaiah Naidu was the chief guest and former prime minister Manmohan Singh the guest of honour. Naidu lauded Singhviâs co ntributions in Parliament, judiciary, politics and civil society and supported the Congress MPâs suggestions in his writings for more creative functioning of Parliament.
âWe need to ponder if our legislatures are sending out the right message to the people who have lot of expectations from our legislatures. The ruling and opposition parties divide that increasingly manifests in our legislatures does not inspire confidence in the people. The ruling and opposition parties have specific responsibilities to discharge. While the governments and ruling parties of the day seek to push legislative proposals, the opposition is mandated with ensuring the best possible scrutiny. At the end of the day, the best possible legislations should follow which further the aspirations of the people,â Naidu said in his speech. Manmohan Singh, who wrote the foreword in Singhviâs book, hailed his colleagueâs intellectual contributions in multiple fields.
