In the upcoming plenary session, the first since Rahul Gandhi took the party's stewardship, the Congre ss is expected to lay down the road map for alliance in 2019 elections in its political resolution. The three day plenary session is going to be held in New Delhi from March 16 to 18.

A senior Congress leader said, the Congress is keen to upstage the BJP from the Centre and will deliberate all the scenarios in detail during the plenary session.

"Inputs will be taken from all district presidents and even from the block level on all important subjects while drafting final resolutions. The political resolution will be specifically dealt in detail to help chart the future course leading to elections," said the leader.

The session will also take stock of the party's preparations in the coming assembly elections in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh to evolve and fine tune its strategy.

Congress sources said the party will also discuss agrarian crisis and farmers' mounting problems in detail to decide on its strategy o f intervention and to provide succor.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi had constituted an organising committee, a drafting committee and its four sub-groups, and a constitution amendment committee last month.

The constitution amendment committee has senior party leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Janardan Dwivedi as its chairman and convener respectively, with 10 other senior leaders, including Ahmed Patel, P Chidambaram, Mallikarjun Kharge and Kapil Sibal, as its members.

The drafting committee has 44 other senior party leaders as its members. It also has four sub-groups on political, economic affairs, international affairs and agriculture and employment.

While AK Antony is the chairman of the political sub-group and Selja its convener, Chidambaram is the chairman of the economic affairs sub-group with Jairam Ramesh as its convener. Anand Sharma is heading the international affairs sub-group with Jyotiraditya Scndia as its convener. Former Haryana chief min ister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is the chairman of the sub-group on agriculture, employment and poverty alleviation, with Meenakshi Natarajan as convener.
