Gujarat elections: Amit Shah predicts 150 seats, dares Congress to name its CM face

BJP President Amit Shah on Tuesday asserted that his party will win over 150 out of the total 182 seats in the Gujarat assembly elections due next month.

Shah was speaking at the News18 Gujarati's Agenda Gujarat programme, which brought Congress and BJP together to discuss the upcoming elections.

The BJP chief countered the criticism against Goods and Services Tax (GST), saying that it will be an 'aashirvaad' for traders within a year.

Shah said that within a year, traders will realise that GST as an aashirvaad blessing and not a burden. The Prime Minister is personally looking into the matter and the results will be out in the open for everyone to see, he added .

Highlighting the work the Narendra Modi led government was doing at the Centre, Shah said that India has become one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

Shah also declared that Vijay Rupani will be leading the campaign for BJP in the assembly elections.

Taking on Congress VP Rahul Gandhi's aggressive campaign in the state head-on, he challenged the Congress to name its chief ministerial candidate in Gujarat.

Congress has outsourced these elections. They neither have a clear strategy nor a definite leader. They are bringing in leaders from outside and borrowing BJP's strategy," Shah said.

He also dismissed Patidar leader Hardik Patel and Shankersinh Vaghela's Jan Vikalp, saying that no third front has ever stood a chance in Gujarat.

Taking a dig at the Congress party, in what is being seen as a two-horse in Gujarat Assembly polls, the BJP president said that his party's work will speak for itself and the C ongress' dream to come back in power will meet the same fate as in the previous Assembly elections.

"Congress has been speaking of its return since 2002. They will still be speaking at these polls and perhaps in 2022 as well," Shah said.

On a question of a perceived increase in Congress party's popularity in Gujarat, Shah displayed confidence and predicted that the BJP would nab 150 seats.

The Gujarat Assembly election will be held in two phases, on December 9 and December 14. The vote counting will happen alongside Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections on December 18.
