Police lodged an FIR against Oru Adaar Love makers over a song that allegedly hurts religious sentiments of Muslims.
The Hyderabad police on Wednesday booked the makers of upcoming Malayalam film Oru Adaar Love over a song that has âobjectionable referencesâ to a love story between Prophet Mohammad and his wife Khadijah Bivi in Mecca.
The song, Manikya Malaraya Poovi, featuring overnight internet sensation Priya Prakash Varrier, has gone viral since it was launched a few days ago. The filmâs director, Omar Lulu, however, denied that the song is objectionable.
The Falaknuma police in the old city filed a case against the makers under section 295 A of Indian Penal Code (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage reliÂgious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or reliÂgious beliefs) based on a complaint from Mohammed Abdul Muqeeth Khan and some other Muslim youths, Hyderabad deputy commissioner of police (south zone) V Satyanarayana said.
âThe police are meticulously investigating the case and appropriate action would be taken against the concerned as per the facts and law,â the DCP said.
Earlier in the day, the Muslim youths lodged a complaint with the police demanding a ban on the song from the Malayalam film for the objectionable references in the lyrics to Prophet Mohammad and his wife Khadijah Bivi.
Although they did not understand the lyrics in Malayalam, the complainants said they found references to the Prophetâs wife in a translation of the song, which they said hurt the sentiments of Muslims.
They attached a copy of the original song and its English translation along with the complaint filed at Falaknuma police station in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
The song has Varrier winking at a co-actor which made her an overnight sensation.
The complainant, Khan, an engineering student, denied lodging the complaint for the sake of publicity. âWe donât want to take to streets or organise people to protest. In fact, I too was floored by the clipping of the song which went viral. However, when I heard the complete song after it became popular yesterday, I felt there is something wrong in the lyrics,â he recalled.
He said he tried to understand the lyrics and then realised that it has reference to Khadija Bivi, wife of Prophet Mohammad. âI felt it objectionable and hence, lodged the complaint,â he said.
His cousin Abdul Kauser, a businessman, who also signed the complaint, said they would fight for protection of the sentiments of the Muslims through legal means, rather than through agitations.
Falaknuma inspector P Yadagiri, who received the complaint, forwarded the same to the Central Crime Station for further action and after going through the content of the lyrics, the police booked the case against the film makers .
Oru Adaar Love will release on Eid this June. Director of Oru Adaar Love, Omar Lulu, said there was no reason for controversy around the song. âThe original track is a traditional song from 1970s that has been sung and enjoyed by people,â the director said, adding that there are many versions of this song and composer Shaan Rehman recreated it for the film. âThere is no need for controversies. This is a an old song and we have not changed anything, but rearranged the music. The song speaks about expressing love without any restrictions, and that is what we want to tell in the film.â
He also added that neither he nor his team have received any notice so far and will take action if and when that happens. âWe do not want to give this too much attention,â he said.Source: Google News
