Bengal labourer burnt alive in RajasthanPTI|Updated: Dec 08, 2017, 12.26 AM IST JAIPUR/MALDA: In a shocking incident, a labourer was attacked with an axe and later burnt alive in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district on Wednesday.
The accused, Shabhu Lal of Raj Nagar, was arrested and was being interrogated after a video of the gruesome incident he allegedly uploaded on social media went viral, SP Rajsamand Manoj Kumar told PTI The slain labourer, who hailed from West Bengal, was identified as Mohammad Afrazul. His family demanded strict action against the killer. The video allegedly has Lal raving about âlove jihadâ, a term used by sections of activists to describe marriages between Hindu women and Muslim men accused of seeking to propagate Islam.
âWe want a thorough investigation to be conducted into the incident and the culprit punished,â a relative of Afrazul told reporters in Malda on Thursday. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Rajasthan home minister Gulabchand Kataria condemned the killing. Kataria said the investigation has been handed over to a special investigation team. âWe strongly condemn the heinous killing of a labourer from Bengal in Rajasthan. How can people be so inhuman? Sad,â Banerjee said in a twee t.
Afrazul's family members said they did not know why he was killed. âWe don't know the real reason behind his killing. He was the sole bread winner of the family. We came to know that the person who killed him had called him on the pretext of giving him work,â a relative said.
Sitaram Yechury tweeted: âThis killing is a result of the atmosphere of hate and communalism fostered by the ideology of the Sangh Parivar. Modi govt and BJP state govts refuse to act and their inaction patronises such barbarity.â
